A Renssalaer, Ind., teen apparently had a change of heart about eluding police after being taken into custody this week.
Zachary Keilman, 18, turned himself in to Indiana State Police on Thursday afternoon, handcuffs still locked on his wrists from when Newton County Sheriff's deputies caught him at an underage drinking party the night before, according to a state police statement.
"He believed he was wanted on a warrant. When asked why he thought he was wanted, Keilman rolled up his sleeves on his shirt," the statement said.
The chain linking the cuffs had been cut, police said.
Keilman has been charged with escape and fleeing, officials said. He had been put in a Newton County deputy's car after police broke up the party the night before and while the deputy was busy with other partygoers, Keilman allegedly sneaked out of the car and ran from the scene.
He is being held at the Newton County Jail.
