Bronx man and a 17-year-old have been charged in connection with the Aug. 14 larceny of about $10,000 worth of merchandise from the Apple store on Greenwich Avenue.
During that larceny, five males burst into the store and stole seven MacBook laptops and an unspecified number of iPhones totaling $8,000 to $10,000 in value from a display table just before closing time on Sunday, police said.
"They basically rushed into the store, grabbed as many electronic items as they could carry and, within less than a minute, made their way out of the store," police Capt. Mark Marino said a day after the incident.
Dwight Collins, 18, was arrested Wednesday in New York and charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, police said. A 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and faces the same charges. His name wasn't released because he is a juvenile.
Both were held on $50,000 bond.
Investigators reviewed surveillance tapes from the store and obtained a description of the getaway vehicle used in the crime.
The August thefts came days after merchants and politicians, concerned over aesthetics in the high-end Greenwich Avenue retail area, complained about a plan to install a floor-to-ceiling security gate, forcing Apple to back down.
According to police dispatch logs, there have been four larcenies and one major burglary at the store, along with numerous calls for false alarms since the store opened in November 2009.
In December 2010, a team of hooded bandits smashed through the store's front door in the middle of the night, stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics equipment.
Collins and the juvenile are scheduled to appear Sept. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
