6 police officers, dispatcher accused in misconduct sweep

September 22, 2011 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) -- Authorities in St. Clair County are accusing six police officers and a former police dispatcher of misconduct as part of a crackdown on law enforcement corruption in southwestern Illinois.

The felony criminal complaints filed Wednesday allege a gamut of wrongdoing -- with one officer accused of getting sexual favors from a woman during a traffic stop and another accused of stealing bullet-resistant vests.

Three of the officers work for Alorton, while the others were employed in Fairview Heights, Belleville and Washington Park. A former East St. Louis dispatcher is accused of aiding a fugitive and obstruction.

The county's top prosecutor and police administrators plan to detail the charges during a news conference Thursday.
