
Police: Father shot, killed 26-year-old son in Matteson, Illinois
A man is in custody after shooting and killing his 26-year-old son Sunday night in Matteson.
Timothy Lithtow, 26, of 3761 W. 216th St. in Matteson, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was shot multiple times.
When officers arrived at at 8:57 p.m. they were met in the front yard by a man who said he had shot his son, according to a release from Matteson police.
Officers went inside the home and found a man in the living room, police said. He was shot numerous times.
The father was taken into custody, police said. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was activated and is investigating.
Man attacks son with sword for not doing chores, police say
A Ventura, California man was arrested Sunday after police said he attacked his 18-year-old son with a sword, accusing him of being lazy and not doing chores around the house.
Antonio Gutierrez, 43, was in a heated argument with his son, John, when he picked up a 4-foot-long sword, police said. The son tried to use his hands to defend himself, police said, but his hand was lacerated by the blade and he bled profusely.
When officers arrived at the family's residence, the father had left, police said, but he returned several hours later and was arrested and booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
