First her husband was fired as Inspector General and now Crusty Toes Regina Evana resigns as Chief of Police under federal investigation

Regina Evans is no longer the chief of police in Country Club Hills.

Mayor Dwight Welch said Monday that city attorney John Murphy was in talks with Evans’ attorney and that they were drafting a resignation letter.

Welch said the city’s former chief, William Brown, will take over Evans’ duties as acting chief.

The news comes in the wake of Evans having filed for personal bankruptcy and being sued by Ilinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. She is also under federal investigation for millions of dollars in missing grant money.

Evans, whom Welch named to the position in 2009, also signed off on the invoices for a controversial summer camp where the campers — including the children of some aldermen who voted for it — got paid to attend.

She recently came under fire from city officials for overseeing a part-time police program where 10 part-time police officers were hired last year. A SouthtownStar report about the officers revealed that many of the part-time officers had questionable backgrounds, and a city report on the program showed the officers weren’t qualified to do police work. They since have been ordered to turn in their guns and badges.
