Chicago Police issue alert after 5 armed robberies of white victims on NW side - "IF YOU SEE A BLACK MAN APPROACHING YOU - RUN THE OPPOSITE WAY!"
Chicago police issued a community alert today after the same man apparently committed five armed robberies on the Northwest Side of the city.
In each of the five cases, a single man takes out a hand gun, approaches the victims on the sidewalk and robs them of their wallets, money and cell phones, police said. Most of the crimes occurred in the early morning hours, police said.
The armed robberies happened on the following dates, times and locations:
-- Oct. 9, on the 1500 block of North Greenview Avenue at 6:23 a.m.
-- Oct. 10, at 3:30 a.m. on the 1400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue
-- Oct. 11, at 2:30 a.m. on the 2200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue
-- Oct. 12, at 1:10 a.m. on the 1200 block of North Greenview Avenue
-- Oct. 16 at 4:30 p.m. on the 1600 block of West LeMoyne Street.
The male suspect is described as a black, between 23 and 40 years old, between 5-feet-7 inches and 6-feet tall, and between 155 and 200 pounds.
He was last wearing a dark blue skull cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He was armed with a chrome or silver handgun.
