A Willowbrook police sergeant was in surgery this morning after being bitten by a K-9 unit dog during an arrest, according to DuPage County prosecutors.
The sergeant was with Willowbrook’s K-9 officer and the police dog, which is named Icha, while they were pursuing suspects in a battery incident.
The dog was able to stop the suspects and when the dog’s handler and the sergeant caught up to two of the suspects to take them into custody, the dog bit the sergeant on the arm, severing a tendon, Assistant State’s Atty. Nick Catizone said at a Wednesday morning bond hearing for the battery suspects.
The sergeant was in surgery by 3 a.m., Catizone said.
There was no information available from the bond appearance on what might have caused the dog to bite, and Willowbrook police did not immediately return a phone call seeking information.
The two men charged in the battery incident are Marshall Livingston, 20, and Paul Lamoureux, 19, both of Hinsdale.
Both were charged with resisting a police officer and fleeing and eluding police. Livingston was also charged with one count of battery.
Police think a third man was involved in the battery but was able to escape arrest, Catizone said.
