4 wounded, 1 fatally, in two Maywood shootings

Four people were shot, one fatally, in two separate incidents overnight in Maywood.

Just before midnight Sunday, a 28-year-old Maywood man was killed in the 800 block of South 19th Avenue across the street from where another man was killed early Saturday morning, said Maywood Police Chief Tim Curry.

“We don’t know if it’s related yet,” he said.

He was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center, Curry said.

A 20-year-old man was shot in both legs in the same incident, he said. He was transported to Loyola but his condition wasn’t know, Curry said.

Six blocks away, in the 200 block of South 19th Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was parking a car when at least one gunman approached and opend fire.

The man leaned over to shield his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, and both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They were both transported to Loyola, and their conditions weren’t known.

Early Saturday, 25-year-old Vincent M. Frazier of Chicago's Austin Neighborhood was shot and killed at about 3:45 a.m.


1 killed, 1 wounded in Chicago shootings

One man was killed and another wounded in separate shootings in Chicago's Little Village and Austin neighborhoods overnight.

A 23-year-old man was found dead, shot in his head and chest, in his back yard on the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue in the city's Little Village neighborhood just before midnight Saturday, according to police.

Other circumstances surrounding his death weren't immediately available. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A 31-year-old man was shot in an unrelated incident on the 5200 block of West Van Buren at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. A bullet grazed his arm and he was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition.

Grand Central detectives are investigating the homicide and Harrison area detectives are investigating the Austin shooting.


16-year-old, at least 2 others wounded in separate South Side shootings

At least three people were wounded Saturday in separate shootings on the city's South Side in the Washington Park and Calumet Heights neighborhoods, officials said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in his thigh at about 8:15 p.m. on the 2100 block of East 93rd Street in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, officials said. An 18-year-old man was also shot in his leg in that shooting.

The juvenile was transported in good condition to Advocate Trinity Hospital two blocks away and was released. The other man was transported in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and later released, police said.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, a 24-year-old man was shot in his upper back on the South Side in the Washington Park neighborhood, officials said.

Preliminary reports said the shooting happened about 2:47 p.m. on the 5100 block of South Prairie Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.

There was no immediate information available about the man's condition, where he was taken for treatment or the circumstances leading up to the shooting, Baety said.

Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.


13-year-old shot, seriously wounded on Far South Side

A 13-year-old boy was shot and seriously wounded in the Far South Side’s West Pullman neighborhood this afternoon, authorities said.

The victim was shot near 120th Street and Michigan Avenue and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis said.

The victim, who police at first said might be an adult but later said was 13, was shot in the shoulder about 1:50 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien. His condition had been stabilized at Christ Medical Center.

Calumet Area detectives were investigating.
