SPECIAL REPORT - MINORITIES ARE OUT OF CONTROL IN U.S- Night of mayhem in NYC: At least two dead, dozen wounded in stabbings and shootings across city



NEW YORK, NEW YORK (DSLC) - Two people were killed and a dozen wounded during a spate of shootings and stabbings in the city to begin the weekend.

The murder victims were a teen police suspect was stabbed by his mother and a young man who had a knife plunged into his midsection in the Bronx.

Cops responding to several 911 calls shortly before 11 p.m. Friday found Sean Hines, 18, inside his parents' upper West Side apartment. He had been stabbed in the leg at the home on W. 92nd St. near Columbus Ave., police said.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Hines' stepfather found the victim's body when he got home and called 911. When cops arrived, a woman answered the door. She had a bloody sponge in her hand.

A police source said Hines' 52-year-old mother was a person of interest but no charges have been filed.
Hines and his mother filed criminal complaints against each other on June 10. The mom claimed her son hit her in the back of the head with a hammer. The son said his mother cut his face.

Hines was charged with felony assault and his mother was hit with a misdemeanor assault rap after the June clash.

Police are also investigating a murder in the South Bronx. Cops were called to 480 E. 138th St. just after midnight and found Joel Rojas, 24, bleeding from a stab wound to the abdomen. The attack followed an argument with a group of young men.

Rojas died about 90 minutes later at Lincoln Hospital.

The string of mayhem began about 8:30 p.m. Friday with a man shot on Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn.

Reports of shootings continued through the night, ending with a man shot in the face at Rockaway and Livonia Aves. in East New York, Brooklyn, just after 5 a.m. Saturday. The shooting victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and expected to survive.
