A Chicago Heights man was shot to death Tuesday morning, apparently by a homeowner whose house he had broken into.
Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday Chicago Heights police officers were dispatched to a call of an attempted burglary and shots fired in the 300 block of Boston Street, a release from Chicago Heights police said.
Officers found a man, later identified as Anterrio L. Hall, 18, of 1911 Adams St. in Chicago Heights, lying on the grass in the backyard, unresponsive. Hall, who had been shot, was taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights, where he was pronounced dead at 9:26 a.m. according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The homeowner told police that he was in his bathroom when he heard some noise, which sounded like glass breaking, in the kitchen.
The homeowner retrieved a gun from his bedroom, and went to investigate the noise.
When he got to the kitchen he encountered a man crouching down next to the kitchen table, the release said. The homeowner fired several shots at the man, who then jumped out the window and collapsed in the backyard.
The medical examiner’s office said Hall was shot multiple times.
Chicago Heights police are continuing their investigation. No charges have been announced in relation to the shooting.
