An Indiana state trooper attending a college class on his own time was able to help a fellow student who collapsed outside his classroom today.Trooper Carl Hall was off duty and in class on the Calumet campus of Purdue University about 11 a.m. when a fellow student -- Patrick A. Hancock, 31, of Hobart, Ind. -- got up because he wasn't feeling well and left the classroom, according to a release from the Indiana State Police.
Hancock collapsed outside the classroom and other classmates who knew Hall was a trooper called on him to help while someone else called 911.
Realizing that Hancock was suffering a major seizure, Hall turned him on his side, protected his head and made sure he didn't cause harm to himself, according to police officials. Hammond Emergency Medical Service EMTs arrived and took Hancock to Munster Community Hospital.
Hall later visited him at the hospital, where Hancock might be held overnight.
"I'm just glad Patrick is recovering and I could use my state police training to assist him," Hall said in the release.
